Biography

Lawrence James is Chief Engineer & Development Officer for Waste Management’s Engineering, Research and Development division. He was promoted into this role in March 2023.

A senior civil engineering construction specialist, Lawrence provides technical direction to Waste Management NZ in terms of civil, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineering for research and development projects. Lawrence manages national development, ongoing maintenance and continuity plans and future growth requirements.

Lawrence has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, with at least half of that in landfill construction and fleet management. An expert in consultation, planning, design review, tender and construction management (implementation), Lawrence has managed teams across multi-disciplined projects, ranging from bulk earthworks, reinforced concrete structures, water/wastewater, bridges, and roading to landfill development. He has a degree in civil engineering and is a chartered member of Engineering New Zealand.
